Two stories popped up simultaneously today, which, when read one after another, was a little amusing. One story is from 4,000 years ago in an ancient civilization. Another is from current times. What do they have in common? Questionable mystical omens, portents, prophecy and the psychic realms. In effect, they all point to the same thing.
Putting the stories together, it’s a reminder that we should be cautious about giving too much credit to questionable omens or folks who say they’ve got all the answers. Today, the internet is positively rampant in scammers trying to make a buck by pretending they have such answers, preying on vulnerable people facing hardships. You’ve seen them everywhere, right?
That’s not to say the metaphysical, psychic, astrological and spiritual realms shouldn’t be taken seriously or explored. That would be encouraged if you enjoy those topics. Rather, it’s a gentle reminder to trust your own instincts and intuition and tune out those who would gladly lead you astray. If folks listened and trusted their inner conscience, empowering themselves, maybe the world would be a vastly better place today.
The Oldest Lunar-Eclipse Omens in History
Here’s the first story: Four Babylonian cuneiform tablets featuring luna-eclipse omens have been deciphered after 4,000 years. The tablets held by the British Museum for almost a century are the “oldest examples of compendia of lunar-eclipse omens yet discovered,” according to a notable expert.
These tablets were “troubleshooting manuals for pious kings,” according to Artnet. In total, 61 omens linked lunar eclipse characteristics to omens, which were generally bad!
Omens included:
- general chaos
- death of a king
- floods
- people will trade their children for silver
- population decline

One of the omens was, “There will be evil in the land; its bounty will disappear.” Wow, now that’s a generic omen, right? But what is rather funny and contemporary is that the King had a way around the omens if they sought the help of “specialists” and “oracles.” By carrying out rituals, including animal sacrifices, bad things could supposedly be avoided. As if harming animals is not in itself a bad thing with karmic repercussions.
An Omen or Tale As Old as Time
Thus, it’s a tale as old as time: people hoping to maintain power seek out questionable mystical “experts” or inauthentic religious leaders. For example, in ancient Egypt, powerful high Priests were political Kingmakers. Once Alexander the Great claimed God chose him after visiting an Egyptian Oracle. (Maybe he convinced himself of his own divinity, though.)
Meanwhile, it’s still happening today. The most recent example is Donald Trump going so far as to proclaim himself chosen by God, circled by extremist evangelicals. Trump even signed and sold Bibles. What could you say about that without laughing out loud?
Over the centuries, many US Presidents consulted with psychics without claiming to have divine authority. That would be absurd, although, in ancient times, it was generally the rule for monarchs, which a president is certainly not.

Psychic News Source Failed to Foresee Crisis
The other story from today is the UK’s Psychic News, first established in 1932, may shut down after losing a long-time subsidy. Journalists have joked that they failed to foresee the crisis through any omen or portent. This, even as experts on clairvoyance, mediums, and spiritualism were readily available.
Yet the magazine has worked hard to expose fakes over the years, stressing “the majority of mediums are painfully honest people.” Rather than giving a platform to fakes and frauds, they have exposed them. But unless they can find a way to recover, they will close, facing competition from endless and often questionable online competition.
And you can guess the vast majority of what you’ll find online is obviously not a genuine article. In a world where it’s getting harder to tell AI from reality, will anything be genuine anymore?
In such a sea of sketchiness, it’s never been more important to trust your inner voice. If you’re in search of an omen or guidance, start by going inward. And beware of anyone or any source that claims to be the chosen one or have all the answers. They are no more chosen than you are and asserting they are points to having zero answers either. Moreover, they aren’t likely to in thousands of years either.
